The Cold Moon

The Cold Moon, full and blinding white. Jan. 5, 2015

“O Nyx, whose darkness holds all the mysteries in shade,
O flame lit stars, whose golden rays with Luna light float near,
Black Queen who knows the untold desire that works our will,
Ekate Apotropaios Grant us your protection this night
from harm & malevolence as we give honour to you.”

I followed my new tradition of drinking the reflected moonlight out of my cup of life-sustaining water. I read the words posted above that I found on this site, I breathed heavily as I expelled all the negative emotions and energy inside my body. During the full moon, I usually don’t work on banishing but this, this was an act of cleansing and pure intention. My greatest wish, were the words I repeated.

Healing Light Burning Bright

My orange candle burning brightly, just as it was. No other edits outside of adding text.

“Healing Light, Burning Bright, Set Me Free of Pain Tonight ~so mote it be” ~ )0(
Is the chant I came up with looking at this lovely candle. I envisioned my pain being a tangible thing and burning up in the cleansing fire and carried away in the smoke. There are health issues and as mentioned, pain that I have been addressing.

Today, I had a massage. It was lovely, it was intense. During one point, the pressure was building but I felt my pain releasing. It was that time that I invited the goddess to join to me, to include her in the healing and soul-nourishing treatment.  Beautiful imagery of people with animal heads appeared to me in my mind’s eye. Still the height of the massage brought a bit more pain, it was during that time that I silently let go of so many things. The words swirled around in my brain until they were gone. Thankful to my masseuse for the treatment and to the goddess for her presence.

Recooperating

I have not been especially active in my practice as of late.  For me, (as much as I love the moon) full moon periods are actually quite debilitating in some ways. My body begins to feel a build up of energy (I must learn to use this energy in a beneficial manner/purpose) and by the time the moon is full, I am exhausted. This year we had a series of 3 supermoons fairly close to each other, which meant the effect of the moon was more intense upon me. With the first supermoon, I had a nervous/hyper irritated energy. During the second supermoon, I felt drained – absolutely drained. The third supermoon was brutal for me, my body ached beyond belief. I had headaches, back aches, neck aches, knee pain and felt sick. I conducted 2 days worth of detox during that time, including: sea salt and soda baths, meditation (lots of it) and different nutritional/hydration routines.

My feeling is, I need to learn to better prepare for the full moon. Journaling and expressing myself through art and music seems appropriate. Preparation for any work to occur during the full moon should be done at least one week in advance, in order to help ensure my practice isn’t lost from me during that time. Extra time must be made for myself, in regards to sleep and replenishment of not only my physical vessel but also my spiritual needs.

During this last supermoon, I did find a very helpful video on YouTube on a channel I subscribe to.

My detox bath included 2 simple ingredients:

1. Sea salt (1 cup)

2. Aluminum free baking soda (Arm & Hammer) (1 cup)

Use the hottest water you can tolerate comfortable to help your pores open and help your muscles relax, and keep plenty of water to drink beside the tub. The bath should last 30 minutes. If you have questions about if a detox bath is safe for you or how often you can take one safely, please refer to your personal physician.

First Super Moon

1st super moon of 2014

It’s not the best photo. The moon itself was absolutely amazing, so large-so bright – it shone like a beacon in the sky! I was incredibly happy to see the moon as the night before there was serious cloud cover and sometimes it’s just not dark enough to see celestial occurrences in Alaska.

For the couple of days before the super moon, I felt extremely bad and it only worsened by Saturday. My body felt racked, exhausted. My emotions were plummeting. Once I saw that bright beacon of a super moon however, my heart soared. Suddenly having more pep I put my magickal items on the window sill, including a jar of water. I cleansed myself and my home with sage and prayers, after that I did two tarot card readings using my “Tarot of the Witches” deck by Fergus Hall. A career reading for my guy and a love reading for me 🙂

We ate some snacks and drank a little ale, it was a good night. Blessed be )0(
