White Candle Blessing

White candle blessing spell.

White candle blessing spell.

May of 2014 was a particularly rough month for me. With many various concerns, I felt I was in need of general blessings. I read the info on a spell at one of my favorite sources. The spell actually calls for the name to be carved into the candle but I decided to just write my name instead (lazy.) I also made my oil to bless & anoint the candle with. I melted a bit of the candle and affixed it to the base which is a re-purposed lid from a small jar. Underneath the lid, a bit of my hair.

I burned a bit of the candle everyday, pinching the flame between my fingertips. I said the blessing just as written on the site. The only modification I did make to the latter of the spell was that I said the prayer/blessing twice a day, I felt I was much in need. For me, this spell was very effective. I noticed a change fairly quickly and was happy with the results.

Freezer Spell

I often use a a very basic spell when I want someone to stop their snide/crappy/spiteful remarks. It involves tap water, sugar, a name written on a piece of paper, a container and a freezer. This is what it looks like:

Red ink is generally what I use to write my “target’s” name with. I use sugar to sweeten the person’s words/attitude/behavior etc. Freezing should freeze the target’s words/actions.  This spell  has worked for me. I witnessed it work immediately and was very satisfied with it, over time it does need to be re-done to keep it active I have found.

Today, I learned that this simplified freezer spell originates from hoodoo. (source) History and more defined application of the spell can be found at the site I linked to.  In the future, I will follow the directions found at “The Lucky Mojo” website and use an animal tongue, pins and alum and I will post the process here.

Pocket Charm

A handmade gift to me

A handmade gift to me

This sweet little charm was hand-made by a friend who created it just for me. It’s only a couple of inches long if that and is small enough to carry on my person daily (which I do.) It carries specific herbs inside. The shape suggests aid in sleep as well as love for oneself. The stitching, done by hand. My friend sang while creating it, instilling her wishes/spell inside.

I wear the charm everyday and it reminds me that not only is it possible for someone else to care about me but also that I care about myself. Just knowing that does help me sleep at night.

Yarrow Harvest

I am very new to harvesting herbs. The weed known as Yarrow has been a childhood favorite flower of mine. It seems to thrive everywhere and the little white flowers accompanied by the fern like leaves have always been hard to resist. I never knew that the weed I had always adored was actually Yarrow until I identified it this year. During my Internet researching I found a very interesting blog post on the medicinal use of Yarrow (link.)

Yarrow grows right along the sidewalks of my neighborhood but I’ve been saving a day to find clean places to harvest. The weather was perfect for it today. I  was very picky while harvesting because much of the flower heads of the Yarrow I came across had the eggs from what’s known as the “spit bug” underneath. I also took photographs of many of the flowers and plants I came across. My harvest walk was fairly long and somewhat unproductive.

When I got home with my crop, I used some of the info found on another blog (link) to get the herb ready for drying and use. The whole process has been fun and rather relaxing.

I had a small bowl when I was done. I tasted one of the fern like leaves while processing, it was very bitter and slightly sour. A few tiny bugs escaped while I was cleaning the heads and leaves from the stalks.

I don’t have a food dehydrator (note to self: I really need/want one) so I put a bit of foil on my old cookie sheet and spread the flower heads and leaves out to dry in the oven. It’s really hot outside today so I wasn’t looking forward to that but the oven is on its lowest setting, “warm.” I am looking forward to the finished product and use in teas and baths primarily. Technically my second attempt at herbal magick, I have a post to do on dandelion roots coming (hopefully.)

**Update 7-9-14** I jarred the dried yarrow yesterday. It was brittle and I didn’t want the flowers/leaves to crumble so I had to use a larger jar than I anticipated and wasn’t prepared (aka the label is still on the jar.)

**Update – July 14, 2014
I was feeling rather poorly and realized yarrow to be a terrific detoxifier of the blood and organs. Water was boiled and I crushed the dried herb into a mug with a cone filter inside and I steeped the tea and added a dropper of milk thistle extract. I sipped it, my tea didn’t have much flavor outside of warm water but that’s OK. While sleeping I did notice my body temperature rise and my skin was warm to touch, I felt hot. I feel the dried yarrow was doing what it was supposed to by increasing my body temperature/circulation of blood and opening my pores.

Next time, I think I will boil the herb in the pot of water for about 10 minutes and strain the tea into my mug.

New Moon Blessing Manifestation

“New Moon in Cancer gives double, innovative power.Try water magick for protection, family, growth and financial stability. Your Magickal Challenge for today: Write 9 new moon wishes, put them in a glass of water, Sunday, dry out the paper and use the Leo Moon fire to burn your petition.” – Silver RavenWolf Author Page (source) I get notifications on FB from Silver RavenWolf’s page and this spell seemed great to try. The new moon fell on June 27, 2014. I took a blue inked pen and quickly charged it with my good thoughts which transferred to paper, and just like that it was in a glass (re-purposed jar) of water on my small bathroom window sill.

Just as instructed, I let it sit in the jar and watched it soak in the golden rays of sunset. I took a pretty photo of that too but decided not to overload you on photos in this post. Sunday, I let the petition dry. Once it was dry Sunday evening (didn’t take long) I found a nice clear piece of ground outside where to burn it.

Nothing but ash left, carried away by the evening wind into the great Alaskan sky!

**Update** Right after we burned the petition, me and my guy went for a walk and in the middle of the road he discovered a titanium ring that fit his finger perfectly. He collects this type of jewelry so it was such an awesome find! I believe it to be part of the “fast luck” request in my petition!
