Merry Mabon. Blessed Be )0(
Lammas or Lughnasadh, it it’s a time of harvest. The end of summer. When grains, apples, grapes are ready for harvest. When poppies bloom and we can see the tangible fruits of our labors. It is also time to honor the Celtic god Lugh, for some. For me, it’s a welcome change in the weather. It is a shift in the energy of the seasons. It marks a turn of the wheel.
It’s been very hot this summer, (in the high seventies/low eighties) in Alaska and summer tends to wear me out. Our summer is so brief and anticipated that much energy is depleted in an effort to do as much as possible. Swim, hike, plant, BBQ, picnic, take bike rides, work, socialize – it can be exhausting. Today, there was a chill in our second story apartment. For the past two months we’ve had four fans running non-stop. Baking for the most part, has been out of the question.
Despite the heat, I have done some baking. Cookies, and an apple pie made from scratch. Today, in honor of Lammas – I baked two loaves of braided white bread from scratch. A very simple recipe. The crust was crusty, and the insides were soft and hot – perfect with butter. Mayonnaise was used as a wash while baking, for the glossy look on the top as I was out of eggs.
I hope to post some rituals in honor of the season, and perhaps a photo of an altar later this month. It’s time to reap what we have sown this year, and I expect I will be reflecting on what I harvest for quite some time!
I made this personal size witch bottle to carry on my person. A witch bottle is often buried or hidden on a property or within the home. I used a found mini sized alcohol bottle that I cleaned and sanitized. My own urine and also an apple cider with the mother are used to fill the bottle. It has several different items placed inside, and the cap is sealed with black wax from a candle I meditated with. It is filled with my intentions, and no ill-will towards anyone. Only self-protection.
It’s my first official attempt at a bottle like this. In the future, I will also incorporate my hair/blood and or saliva.
*UPDATE 7/9/2015 – Last week I threw the bottle away. When I unwrapped it I saw the contents had turned completely black. Now, it could have been the ingredients in the bottle decaying naturally or as I choose to believe.. that the bottle fulfilled it’s purpose. I thanked it for it’s work! I had noticed a change in attitude towards me, when I was carrying it in my handbag.
My altar was set up at midnight of March 20, 2015. The day prior I went for a walk outside looking for the evidence of Spring, you can see photos on my blog Cabin Fever Confessions. During my prayer & meditation I wore a ribbon crown, made with soft pink and yellow curled ribbons. I listened to a Ostara inspired YouTube playlist.
Using the selenite sphere gifted to me for me and my sweets 8th year anniversary, I cleansed my crown chakra. There is also a stone set out specifically for the fae. Spring time is a wonderful time to invite the magick of faeries into your life! Yesterday, I was looking at painted eggs from Russia in a local shop and completely forgot to purchase it for the altar. I think I will be making egg based foods today in honor of the season.
There were chants and displays of gratitude for the gifts that Spring brings us! Blessed Ostara to you all! Welcome Spring! We awaken you! Welcome Spring! We honor You!
Tonight’s full moon is the smallest full moon of the year. We’ve heard it called the micro-moon or mini-moon. This March 5, 2015 full moon lies about 50,000 kilometers (30,000 miles) farther away from Earth than will the year’s closest full moon – the full supermoon and Northern Hemisphere’s Harvest Moon – on September 28. The March 5 moon is the year’s farthest full moon because full moon and lunar apogee – the moon’s farthest point in its monthly orbit – both fall on the same date. – Via earthsky.org
That’s what I read yesterday and what inspired me to do some banishing type magick. When I read “micro” I thought this would be an excellent time to use the power of the moon to help me reduce/minimize an unwanted habit/desire/thought etc until it was no longer visible within myself or my life.
It was a quick ritual, most of the prepping and intention set inside my home. The rest performed outside, under the moonlight. It felt fantastic. I didn’t use any particular wording this time, using only my mind’s eye to see what I desired to happen. I also took out my “The Psychic Tarot” deck by John Holland and did a quick reading for myself and then, went to bed early to concentrate on taking care of my body & spirit.
Happy Solstice! Blessed Yule! Happy Holidays!
We return to the light of longer days, to warmer days!
A time of hope and the future!
The photo is from my Instagram. My sweet and I had been having extremely troubling dreams for a few nights and we decided to do some cleansing of our bedroom. Under the bed, and in every corner. I like to call it “changing the air.” He used the smoke of an incense stick (we’ve been out of our normal sage bundle) and I lit 3 tealights. One with black pepper, (banishment/protection) the second with cinnamon (protection & to fill the space with sweetness & prosperity) and the third catnip – an offering to Freya, as it was a Friday and she is a goddess I pay homage too. A goddess of sex, love & beauty but also a fierce warrior! It all seemed very appropriate, and it worked. No problems since. I also like to use a white feather to move the air, creating circulation of movement, letting nothing stay stale or idle.
“Healing Light, Burning Bright, Set Me Free of Pain Tonight ~so mote it be” ~ )0(
Is the chant I came up with looking at this lovely candle. I envisioned my pain being a tangible thing and burning up in the cleansing fire and carried away in the smoke. There are health issues and as mentioned, pain that I have been addressing.
Today, I had a massage. It was lovely, it was intense. During one point, the pressure was building but I felt my pain releasing. It was that time that I invited the goddess to join to me, to include her in the healing and soul-nourishing treatment. Beautiful imagery of people with animal heads appeared to me in my mind’s eye. Still the height of the massage brought a bit more pain, it was during that time that I silently let go of so many things. The words swirled around in my brain until they were gone. Thankful to my masseuse for the treatment and to the goddess for her presence.
